Natural Beauty Remedies of Acmella The Natural Botox

Powerful anti-wrinkle action, relaxes the contractions of the muscles of the face and strengthens the collagen, also useful in the case of psoriasis, itching and wounds, finally it is a diuretic and helps against hypertension

Acmella oleracea, also known as Spilanthes acmella, family of Asteraceae, is a plant native to the Brazilian forest that is attracting much interest in the field of cosmetics. In fact, acmella is considered a natural botox and is increasingly used in anti-wrinkle creams. But let's understand better.

Acmella, anti wrinkle remedy

The acmella extract contains an active ingredient, called spilanthol, able to act on wrinkles, both the expression lines and the deepest wrinkles. In fact, this substance is able to reduce expression wrinkles by relaxing the muscles. Moreover, the spilanthol is antioxidant and stimulates and strengthens the collagen network thus giving tone to the skin that appears firm and compact (Veda Prachayasittikul et al, EXCLI Journal, 2013 - Chen et al, Molecules, 2015). The acmella extract is also anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, analgesic and anesthetic. All these properties have been demonstrated by scientific studies and make acmella a useful remedy even in case of psoriasis, itching and wounds by speeding up healing (Yamane et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med., Sep 2016 - Cho et al, Molecular Medicine Reports, 2017). You can find the Acmella in different cosmetic products, in INCI it appears with the name Acmella oleracea extract. Alternatively, you can buy the extract, preferably in liquid form, in specialized shops and create a powerful anti wrinkle remedy by yourself. This extract should be carried by an oil that let it penetrate through the skin, for example, you can use argan oil, which enhances its anti-aging action. To 80 ml of argan oil add 20 ml of acmella extract, mix and apply a couple of drops of product on slightly damp face, neck and décolleté, for example after spraying rose water.

Acmella, other uses

Finally, the acmella extract also has a useful action in case of hypertension as it demonstrates a vasorelaxing and diuretic effect (Gerbino et al, PLos One, 2016). In addition to this, scientific studies have also observed the ability of this extract to reinforce the natural defenses by stimulating the immune system and countering colds, flu and respiratory tract diseases. In general, for this action, the acmella leaf extract is used (Veda Prachayasittikul et al, EXCLI Journal, 2013).
